Summary:The present invention provides a method for easily and efficiently eliminating radioactive cesium from a waste material contaminated by radioactive cesium. A method for eliminating radioactive cesium comprising a heating step of heating a waste material contaminated by radioactive cesium, along with a CaO source and/or an MgO source at 1200~1350 DEG C, so as to vaporize the radioactive cesium contained in the waste material, characterized in that during the heating step, the type and fraction admixed of each of the waste material, the CaO source and the MgO source are determined in a manner so that the respective masses of CaO, MgO and SiO2 satisfy ((CaO +1.39xMgO)/SiO2) = 1.0~2.5 (wherein in the formula, CaO, MgO and SiO2 respectively represent the mass of calcium in terms of the oxide, the mass of magnesium in terms of the oxide, and the mass of silicon in terms of the oxide).
