Summary:A method for optimizing a digital map removes data redundancies associated with geo-located point features (16). Point feature (16) location data is embedded into the attributes of line segments (14) rather than separately and redundantly storing the geo-location of point features (16) in separate data files. According to this invention, location records are provided as an attribute to a line segment (14), or as an attribute to the point feature (16) itself, identifying the location of the point feature (16).
