Summary:The invention relates to an idler roll for guiding a thread, in particular on godets of textile machines. The idler roll has a guide jacket that is supported by a roll body bearing on the circumference of a roll shaft. In order to minimize the starting resistance of the idler roll, the guide jacket is formed according to the invention by a cup-shaped hollow body that can be produced by an indirect compression of a sheet with a sheet thickness of < 2 mm.
