Summary:A method for changing a rotational speed of a CD-ROM drive. First, a read speed for a CD-ROM drive to read data is detected by software. Then, whether the read speed is greater than a critical speed is determined. The critical speed is smaller than the lowest rotational speed of the CD-ROM drive to process a read command and greater than a read speed for the CD-ROM drive to process a play command. If the read speed is greater than the critical speed, the rotational speed of the CD-ROM drive to read an audio disc or a video compact disc is changed to a high speed. If the read speed is smaller than the critical speed, the rotational speed of the CD-ROM drive to read an audio disc or a video compact disc is changed to a low speed.
