Summary:A process for polymerizing ethylene under the high temperature and high pressure conditions by using a battery of two or more autoclave reactors connected in series by means of piping provided with a heat exchanger, each of said reactors having an upper reaction zone and a lower reaction zone. According to this process, the reaction yield of polyethylene is higher than that attainable from the conventional two-zone polymerization methods, and the obtained polyethylene is improved in optical properties and processability.
