Summary:A lettering device of the type having a keyboard for choosing the symbols to be written, comprising a writing part, which may be separated from said keyboard, wherein the pen is selectively moved by two geared motors, in two coordinate directions, to correspond to the symbols to be drawn. The writing part is adapted to be attached to the symbol head of a drafting machine, wherein two motors, that selectively move the writing pen along cartesian coordinates, are arranged stationary, relative to each other. The writing arm which holds the writing pen is movable, in the one coordinate direction, upon a first movable guide track that itself is movable in the other coordinate direction by a first motor, and also movable in the other coordinate direction upon a second guide track, that is movable in the direction of said one coordinate by a second motor.
