Summary:The rail elements (5) consisting of plastic or light metal are joined together to form a railing (6). The individual rail elements (5) are connected flush to one another by means of joint abutments (10). They have, on the side facing away from the roadway, longitudinal slots (8) which are used for connecting rail elements (5) to one another and to posts (4). The rail elements are in this case connected to the posts (4) preferably via intermediate elements (7) and outside the area of the abutments (10). In this way, a stable road barrier device is obtained which is smooth on the side facing the roadway and which, by virtue of its deformability, is able to absorb the collision impact of vehicles.
