Summary:Lignocellulose pulp suspension is treated with a soluble Ca salt, esp CaCl2, which forms, no insoluble salts with heavy metals. Treatment may take place in refiner or on dilution, after refiner, After a given retention time, the Ca salt is washed out of pulp suspension. Peroxide-bleaching may take place by standard methods. Pref. CaCl2-treatment takes place with a CaCl2 concn. >0.75, esp >1.4 g/l, for >0.5-, esp >10 mins. CaCl2 may be charged with recycle water from subsequent process steps. Part of the CaCl2 may be retained in the pulp. Brightness of bleached pulp corresponds at least to that obtd. in bleaching a groundwood pulp suspension.
