Summary: | 1444310 Insulating cryogenic tanks MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO KK and MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 Nov 1974 [17 Nov 1973] 47962/74 Heading F4P A heat insulating lining for a cryogenic tank comprises primary and secondary barriers A, B with a leakage-detecting layer 6 therebetween, each barrier being formed of layers of plastics foam insulation 7 alternating with mesh or lattice-like layers 10 of glass or carbon fibre embedded therebetween, a layer 9 of liquidimpervious material being provided on the liquid side of barrier A, and the leakagedetecting layer 6 providing a liquid impervious sub-layer 15 for barrier B. The liquid-detecting layer, Fig. 3, comprises a gas-impermeable layer M adjacent barrier B, the liquid-impervious layer 15, a gas-permeable porous plate 16 and a perforated film 17, all connected by fasteners 18. The layer 6 is built up of panels of these layers M-17 joined by means of frames 19 and connectors 20, adjacent panels being connected by passages 22. Gas-analysing means can detect the presence of liquefied gas which has permeated through a crack in plate 9, nitrogen being normally circulated through layer 6. Materials.-Insulation 7-rigid polyurethane with reinforcing material 8 of short fibres of glass or carbon. Plate 9 and layer 15-glass fabric and synthetic resin. Layer M-aluminium foil 13 and polyester resin film 14. Porous plate 16-polyethylene, flexible polyurethane or sintered metal plate. Perforated film 17-glass fabric coated with polyurethane or epoxy resin. |
