Summary:A coulter for a sowing machine is provided with a wedge-shaped wing portion (3). Underneath the wing portion, an member (4) is attached for spreading the seeds coming from the seed pipe (1) as a band on the bottom of the furrow. In order to compact the bottom of the furrow, a soil compacting member (5) is provided between the longitudinal edges of the wing portion (3), the bottom face of the said compacting member being at least partly located underneath the plane formed by the longitudinal edges of the wing portion.
