Summary:A device for heating water to be used as hot service water or for heating purposes comprises a vessel 10, 41, whereby at least its upper portion V3 serves as an accumulator for heated water. The water in a delimited first sub-volume V2 is heated to a predetermined temperature, adequately by means of a heat pump, following which this water is carried to the upper portion of the vessel, simultaneously with cooler water from a second sub-volume V1 being transferred to the first sub-volume V2 for heating, and water from the accumulator part V3 of the vessel being transferred to the second sub-volume V1. This course may be repeated until all water in the accumulator part V3 has obtained a desired temperature.
