Summary:1379024 Detergents with sodium carbonate builder UNILEVER Ltd 29 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 8505/71 Heading C5D A detergent composition for washing textiles comprises (A) 5 to 25% by wt. of a mixture of an amine oxide and a nonionic detergent and (B) 25 to 90% by wt. of an alkali metal carbonate, as builder. Sodium carbonate is preferred and it may be in the form of sodium sesqui-carbonate. Mixtures of carbonates may be present. The ratio of amine oxide to nonionic detergent is from 3 : 1 to 1 : 10 by wt. Optional ingredients are (C) 10 to 50% by wt. of calcium carbonate; (D) up to 40% of an aromatic solvent, e.g. dibutyl phthalate; (E) 5 to 15% by wt. of sodium silicate; (F) up to 10% by wt. of a builder such as sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium citrate, sodium carboxymethyloxysuccinate, sodium mellitate, sodium copolyethylene maleate and sodium nitrilotriacetate. A powder is formed by spray-drying (1) an aqueous slurry containing all the ingredients or (2) all ingredients less the amine oxide and nonionic detergent, which may be dissolved in a volatile solvent such as isopropanol and sprayed on to the spray-dried powder. Further additives in the spray-drying process are, (3) nonionic detergent slurry separation inhibitors, e.g. ethylene/maleic anhydride copolymers and vinyl methyl ether/maleic anhydride copolymers, and (4) flow aids, e.g. sodium alumino-silicate. Bleaches and other adjuvants may be present.
