Summary:1366282 Shaft furnace charging apparatus THYSSEN NIEDERRHEIN AG HUTTENUND WALZWERKE 15 Jan 1973 [20 Jan 1972] 2006/73 Heading F4B Charging apparatus for a shaft furnace comprises a conveyer 2 for the charge material, an upper closing flap 3 and a lower closing bell 4 working with alternate timing, a housing 5 enclosing a reciprocable basket 6 with a bellbottom 7 separate from the basket, the basket being adapted to be lowered so that the bellbottom rests on the bell 4. The conveyer is moved into and out of the upper opening 8 to allow the flap 3 to close. During a delivery the charge material, which may be of fragile green pellets, falls only a short distance into shaft 18 and forms a conical heap, the basket being in the raised position so that the bell-bottom closes the bottom of the shaft. When the shaft is filled the basket is lowered allowing the charge to run into the basket. The basket is lowered, as the conveyer delivers further charge, until it rests on stops 12. When the lower bell 4 is lowered the bell-bottom moves with it allowing the charge to run out of the basket into the furnace. The lifting device 11 then raises the bell-bottom 7 and the basket and the cycle is repeated.
