Summary:1319536 Preventing erosion LABOFINA SA 16 Oct 1970 [23 June 1970] 30444/70 Heading A1E [Also in Divisions El and C3] Soil to be used for seeding is treated by spraying with an aqueous solution of a watersoluble acrylamide polymer or copolymer and aqueous solution having a pH of 5-11 and comprising a hypochlorite or hypobromite salt of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal (or an equivalent hypochlorite- or hypobromite-generating compound, e.g. a water-soluble chloramine or chlorocyanurate) whereby the polymer is cross-linked in situ in the soil. Such treatment prevents erosion, restricts surface soil movement under the action of wind or rain, and permits the soil to breathe. The treatment can be applied before, during or after seeding. In a preferred procedure the seeds are dispersed in the polymer solution and thereby sprayed on the soil together with the polymer. Example 11 illustrates the application of grass seed.
