Summary:1301761 Pulleys CANADIAN GENERAL ELECTRIC CO Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [14 April 1970] 2497/71 Heading F2Q A friction mine hoist comprises a drive wheel having at least one head retaining groove in its periphery, the groove having sides 22, 23 lying in planes normal to the axis of rotation of the wheel and undercut at the bottom of the groove at 24, 25, a tread for retention in the groove comprising a plurality of tread blocks 30, 31 placed end-to-end in said groove in a ring around the wheel; a rope groove 32 in the periphery of the ring of tread blocks; a pair of shoulders 33. 34 on each block fitting into said undercuts 24, 25; and a diagonal split 37 lengthwise in each block located to one side of the rope groove 32, the split separating a wedge-shaped piece 35 from one side of the block for facilitating assembly of the block on the wheel. The block is preverably moulded in one piece from plastics material and then split along the plane 37. In assembling the tread, the small piece 35 is first placed in the groove with its shoulder 33 in the under cut 24. The large piece 36 is then pushed into the wedge-shaped opening between the piece 35 and the side 23 of the groove, with its shoulder 34 in the undercut 25. The pieces 35, 36 are preferably lubricated with soap and water to facilitate the insertion. The last block making up the tread is positioned and secured in the groove by some other suitable method.
