Summary:1,254,042. Reactors. ATOMENERGI A.B. 21 May, 1969 [21 May, 1968; 18 June, 1968], No. 25992/69. Heading G6C. In a water-cooled and moderated nuclear reactor, the inner surface of the prestressed concrete pressure vessel is thermally insulated by a gas layer. The water-cooled core 1, is mounted within the prestressed concrete pressure vessel T, the inner surface of which is thermally insulated by the gas-filled gap 8, between the surface and the shell 4. The liquid lock 14, is formed by the baffle 6, concentric with 8. The lock is cooled by a flow of water through 13 and the gas pressure in 8 is maintained close to that of the steam inside 4 by the conduit 12. In further embodiments, the baffle 6, may be extended upwards and an additional lock mounted at the upper rim.
