Summary: | 1049615 Making super-conductive wire PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 5 Feb 1965 [8 Feb 1964] 5108/65 Headings H1A and A4D A super-conductive wire consisting of a sheath surrounding an Nb 3 Sn core is made by wrapping a strip of the sheath material around a mixture of powdered niobium and tin so as to form a pipe encasing the filling, forming a wire from the pipe by drawing and hammering and heating the wire produced to form the Nb 3 Sn core. The sheath may be niobium, molybdenum, chromium, alloys of molybdenum and chromium, or alloys of molybdenum or chromium with tungsten. The wire may be wound into a coil before the final heat-treatment. |
