Summary:FIELD: nuclear power engineering; fuel elements for liquid-metal cooled fast reactors. ^ SUBSTANCE: outer diameter of fuel element cladding is chosen between 5.9 and 7.5 mm and its thickness is between 0.25 and 0.55 mm; cladding is made of steel having following composition mass percent: carbon, 0.05 - 0.08; silicon, 0.3 - 0.6; manganese, 1.0 - 2.0; sulfur, maximum 0.012; phosphor, maximum 0.02; chromium, 15.5 - 17.0; nickel, 14.0 - 15.5; molybdenum, 1.9 - 2.5; titanium, 0.2 - 0.5; vanadium, 0.1 - 0.3; boron, 0.002 - 0.005; nitrogen, maximum 0.02; cobalt, maximum 0.02; aluminum, maximum 0.01; magnesium, 0.0001 - 0.005; calcium, 0.0005 - 0.005; iron, the rest; titanium-to-carbon content ratio is minimum 4. Enhanced swelling resistance of fuel element cladding during irradiation reduces probability of its shape change. ^ EFFECT: enhanced mechanical strength and corrosion resistance of cladding at high temperatures; facilitated manufacture. ^ 2 cl, 1 dwg, 2 tbl
