Summary:FIELD: radiation technology. SUBSTANCE: proposed method designed to clean surfaces of capsules containing high-activity sources from radioactive deposits includes sequential treatment of gamma-ray source capsules with oxidizing solution of potassium permanganate with nitrous acid and reducing solution containing oxalic and nitrous acids. Oxidizing treatment is made with aid of solution containing 30-40 g/l of potassium permanganate and 40-50 g/l of nitrous acid; reducing solution incorporates 40-50 g/l of oxalic acid and 5-7 g of nitrous acid. Upon reducing treatment capsules are rinsed with solution of hydroxyethyl idendiphosphate acid and potassium hydroxide in the amount of 30-40 and 14-20 g/l, respectively. Process is conducted at all stages in nucleate bubbling mode due to radiation heat transfer from sources being treated. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of decontamination process, simplified design of instruments used, facilitated procedure. 2 cl, 4 dwg, 4 tbl
