Summary:biotechnology, biochemistry, amino acids. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to method of production of L-aspartic acid used in medicine, food and microbiological industry. Method involves metabolism of ammonium fumarate using biocatalyst based on cells of the strain Escherichia coli 858 (VKPM B-7188) and isolation of the end product. High activity of enzyme aspartase is obtained in cells of the strain E. coli 858 cultured in nutrient medium containing acetic acid. Cells of the strain E. coli 858 are used in native or immobilized form. Effectiveness of producing the end product is caused by the use of more active biocatalyst based on the strain E. coli 858. EFFECT: improved economy of method, decreased cost, intensified method of preparing cells of strain Escherichia coli 858 as compared with known methods. 3 cl, 2 tbl, 3 ex
