Summary: | non-ferrous metallurgy, namely, production of master alloys for enhancing properties of light alloys. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of metalothermic reduction of scandium oxides in halide melts in such a way that 30-75-% concentrate of scandium oxide is subjected to reduction with use as reducing agent aluminium and magnesium base alloy containing 15-30% of magnesium. It increases extraction degree of scandium to master alloy (up to 85%); cost of master alloy is lowered by 30-50% due to use of concentrate with decreased content of scandium oxide.
