Summary:New 1,2,3-thiadiazole-5-yl-urea derivatives of the formula wherein R1 is hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group which may be interrupted by one or more sulfur or oxygen atoms, R2 is a C1-C4 alkyl which may be interrupted by one or more sulfur or oxygen atoms, a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted by one or more alkyl groups, an aromatic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted by one or more members of the group consisting of alkyl, halogen, alkyl thio, alkoxy, trifluoromethyl and nitro, or a heterocyclic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted containing at least one nitrogen atom, R3 is hydrogen, a C1-C10 alkyl group which may be substituted, a C2-C8 alkenyl, an aryl-C1-C2 alkyl, a C3-C8-cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with one or more C1-C6 alkyl groups, and an aromatic hydrocarbon group which may be substituted with one or more members of the group consisting of C1-C6 alkyl, halogen, C1-C6 -alkoxy and trifluoromethyl, and X is oxygen or sulfur. Processes for making these compounds, compositions containing these compounds having plant growth regulating and defoliating activity and methods for using these compounds for these purposes are also disclosed and claimed in the application.
