PROCEDE D'OBTENIR DES HALOGENURES DOUBLES DE TITANE OU VANADIUM

TiCl3 and VCl3 are prepd. by vaporising a metal (I) under vacuum and reacting the vapours with MCl4, (where M is Ti or V) at low temps. Vapourisation is pref. effected under a vacuum of 10-1-10-6 mm Hg and reaction is pref. at -80 to +20 degrees C. The metal (I) is pref. Al, Mg, Cr, Mn, Fe, V and Ti...

Summary:TiCl3 and VCl3 are prepd. by vaporising a metal (I) under vacuum and reacting the vapours with MCl4, (where M is Ti or V) at low temps. Vapourisation is pref. effected under a vacuum of 10-1-10-6 mm Hg and reaction is pref. at -80 to +20 degrees C. The metal (I) is pref. Al, Mg, Cr, Mn, Fe, V and Ti. Reaction between metal vapours and MCl4 is pref. effected in presence of an inert diluent chosen from (un)satd. aliphatic hydrocarbons and halogenated hydrocarbon. The process is partic. for reacting Mg vapours with TiCl4 to obtain a catalyst component (II) to be used in conjunction with an organometallic Al cpd. for the (co)polymn. of alpha-olefins. (I) may be any metal i.e. transition or other metal, so that catalysts having different activities can be prepd. The catalysts have high activities (e.g. 230kg polymer per g. Ti per hr.) and need not be sepd. from the polymers. The polymers are obtd. in high yields, are morphologically homogenous, have adjustable mol. wts. and can also be obtd. in gaseous phase with high yields.
