Summary: | 1409337 Modified aluminium compound catalyst for olefin copolymerization SNAMPROGETTI SpA 16 April 1973 [17 April 1972] 18304/73 Heading C3P Monoolefins having at least four carbon atoms and conjugated diolefins are copolymerized using a catalyst comprising (a) an aluminium compound of formula R1R2AlX where X is halogen, R1 is hydrocarbyl or hydrogen, R2 is the same as R1 or an alkoxyl radical, and (b) an oxide of an element of Group 6a or 7a. The monomers are preferably C 4-7 monoolefins and C 4-14 diolefins and butyl rubber is particularly contemplated. Specified (b) components are SO 2 , SO 3 , Cl 2 O, ClO 2 , Cl 2 O 7 , BrO 2 , and 1 2 O 5 . In the examples, isobutene is copolymerized with a small amount of isoprene in methyl chloride in the presence of (a) Et 2 AlCl, Et 2 AlBr, or EtAl(OEt)Cl and (b) SO 2 , SO 3 or Cl 2 O. |
