A method of preparing a non-woven fabric comprises forming a fibrous lap of at least two components, one of the components being more heat shrinkable than the other, and heating to effect differential shrinkage, the lap being attached to a backing e.g. of jute or polypropylene filaments, preferably by needling. The composite may be impregnated with an acrylic resin or the backing spread with a polyvinyl chloride plastisol, and then passed through an oven. The more thermo-shrinkable component is preferably chlorovinyl and the less thermo-shrinkable component a polyamide, polyester, acrylic or polypropylene. The two components may be present as separate fibres are as conjugate fibres.
