Summary:The invention relates to a keratin hydrolysate-based fertilizer to be used for nourishing cereal, sunflower or rape plants and to a process for preparing the same. According to the invention, the process comprises the degreasing of sheep wool keratin and its alkaline hydrolysis with 10% sodium hydroxide for 4h, at a temperature of 80°C, after which the pH value is adjusted to 8, to result in a keratin hydrolysate with an average molecular mass of 11000...25000 Da or the hydrolysis is continued enzymatically, at a temperature of 60°C with 1% Alcalase 2.5 l or 0.5% Protamex, for 3 h, to result in a keratin hydrolysate with an average molecular mass of 2000...6000 Da, the hydrolysates being then filtered and/or concentrated by evaporation, they being compatible with collagen hydrolysate, macro-nutrients or inorganic micro-elements in fertilizer formulations.
