Summary:The process comprises dissolving the raw insulin, after removal of alcohol from cattle or pig pancreas processing, in hydroacetone buffer soln. of ammonium acetate (pH = 6.1). Pptn. in the presence of zinc ions, for dissolving at acid pH and reprecipitation of alkaline pH in the presence of NaCl, EDTA and zinc ions, is followed by redissolving at acid pH and reprecipitation by addn. of NaCl. The insulin is crystallised to min. 24 UI/mg purity.
