Summary:An alkyl-phenol-methylene-amine compsn. is prepd. from an alkyl-phenol ortho and para substd. by di:methyl-amine and formaldehyde at a molar ratio 1:1.4:1.4 of the reactants, in a closed system at 80-90 deg.C, 2-3 atmos. pressure, for 3-4 hrs. A viscous liq. prod. is obtd. contg. a mixt. of 0.75 mol p-nonyl-phenol-o-methylene- -di:methyl-amine and 0.25 mol of o-nonylphenol-p, o- -methylene-di:methyl-amine having an overall amine index of 150 +/- mg HCl/g prod. consumption. The prod. acts as a starting material in the prepn. of cationic agents, as road-bitumen additives, antiagglomerants and mineral oil emulsion breakers.
