Desilication of aluminate soln. for high purity aluminaprodn. - by treating with calcium contg. reagentsincluding desilicatin prod

Process comprises successive treatments by a desilication reaction prod. (a) mainly consisting of a cpd. of formula 3CaO.Al2O3.nSiO2.(6-2n)H2O, and a reagent (b) of formula 4CaO.Al2O3.(0.1-0.6)X.mH2O, where n is at most 1, X is CO2 and/or SO3, m=8-15. To increase efficiency, the first reaction time...

Summary:Process comprises successive treatments by a desilication reaction prod. (a) mainly consisting of a cpd. of formula 3CaO.Al2O3.nSiO2.(6-2n)H2O, and a reagent (b) of formula 4CaO.Al2O3.(0.1-0.6)X.mH2O, where n is at most 1, X is CO2 and/or SO3, m=8-15. To increase efficiency, the first reaction time is 0.5-2 hrs., at 40-105 degrees C. Pref., the second reagent (b), calculating relative to CaO CaO, has the b:SiO2 weight ratio 10-25, and the a:b ratio is 1-3:1. Thus, CaO, Pl2O3, Na2CO3, K2CO3, Na2SO4, K2SO4 are reacted in aluminate solution in molar ratios CaO:Al2O3=3.75-5.0 and Y:Al2O3=0.1-0.6, where Y=Na2CO3, Na2SO4 and/or K2SO4.
