Summary: | A metal sole plate for a laundry iron which has its surface (13) in contact with the cloth treated by a mechanical hardening treatment, also has this surface coated by a hard scratch resistant coating (14). The metal (11) of the sole plate may be stainless steel (claimed) or an aluminium alloy (claimed). The hard scratch resistant coating may be a chemical deposition of nickel (claimed) or a ceramic of chromium nitride (claimed) deposited by Vapour Phase Chemical deposition (claimed). The mechanical hardening is preferably carried out by micro-ball or non-abrasive shot-blasting (claimed). |
