Summary:The present invention relates to spray-dried aluminum hydroxide (ATH) particles useful as flame-retardants and a process for the production thereof. The spray dried ATH particles e.g. have an oil absorption in the range of about 1 to about 35%, a BET surface area in the range of about 1 to about 15 and a particle diameter d 50 in the range of about 0.5 to about 2.5 µm, or have a BET specific surface area of from about 3 to about 6 m 2 /g; and a maximum specific pore volume V Max of from about 390 to about 480 mm 3 /g; or have a BET specific surface area of from about 6 to about 9 m 2 /g; and a maximum specific pore volume V Max of from about 400 to about 600 mm 3 /g; or have a BET specific surface area of from about 9 to about 15 m 2 /g; and a maximum specific pore volume V Max of from about 300 to about 700 mm 3 /g.
