This power unit for straddle-type vehicles is equipped with: an alternating current generator (54) having a rotor (72) that is coupled to a crankshaft on the outer side of a crankcase (38) and rotates about the axis of rotation (Rx) of the crankshaft; and a case cover (55, 57) covering the crankcase (38) from the outer side and housing the alternating current generator (54) therein. Between the crankcase (38) and the case cover (57), an exhaust flow passage (99) is formed that extends, from an exhaust flow opening (98) defined by a peripheral wall (81a) surrounding the alternating current generator (54), further rearward than a step mounted to the vehicle body. The present invention thereby provides a power unit for straddle-type vehicles that avoids exposing the feet of the rider to hot air from an alternating current generator.
