Disclosed is a respiratory apparatus with a heatable gas flow path for delivering breathable gas to a patient. The heatable gas flow path includes a first gas flow path segment (4) with a first heater segment (19) and a second gas flow path segment (10) with a second heater segment (18). The first gas flow path segment (4) is connectable to a patient interface (5) and the second gas flow path segment (10) is located upstream of the first gas flow path segment (4). Wherein at least one of the first and second gas flow path segments (4,10) is bound by a double wall with an inner layer and an outer layer separated by a cavity within which a corresponding one of the first and second heater segments (18,19) is located. Wherein each of the first and second heater segments (18,19) forms an independently controllable heating zone.
