Summary:A valve (10) for a carbonation gas canister and a canister including a valve (10) that is configured to hold the gas in the canister when closed, and to provide a fluidic connection between the canister and the carbonation machine, or a source of the gas, when opened. The valve (10) comprises a body that with a canister port oriented along a longitudinal axis of the valve (10) and the valve is characterised in that inflow to and outflow from the canister is through at least one exterior port (16) that opens laterally to the longitudinal axis of the valve (10). The valve has an annular groove about the valve body into which the exterior port opens. When the valve is inserted into a socket of a holder of a carbonation machine the exterior port can be oriented in any radial orientation within a sealed full or partial annular bore in the socket. When the valve is operated by an actuator applying pressure on a top of the valve (26a), outside the sealed annular bore, the pressurized or liquified gas is released from the gas canister into a carbonation head of the carbonation machine to carbonate a liquid.
