Summary:A method for calibrating a distance sensor which is placed on an agricultural vehicle is described. Known sensor systems for agricultural machines are complex and are difficult to calibrate. The distance sensor is calibrated by measuring the distance between the distance sensor placed on an agricultural vehicle and a set of points on a ground surface in front of the agricultural vehicle, the measured distance is stored. The agricultural vehicle is moved forward at a speed; and a first moment in time at which the distance sensor detects a predetermined pattern relative to the reference data is registered and a second moment in time at which an inlet sensor measures a predetermined value is also registered. The distance moved is determined by multiplying the difference between the first and second moments in time by the speed; and storing the distance moved in memory.
