Summary:603956 A method of granular metal production which increases productivity is disclosed. The method is particularly useful in production of granular metal from iron ore or other iron oxides. The agglomerates containing metal oxide and a carbonaceous reducing agent are heated to reduce and melt the metal oxide contained in the agglomerates and produce granular metal. The agglomerates have an average diameter of 17.5 mm or greater are supplied onto the hearth of a reduction melting furnace with a spread density of 0.5 or greater. The furnace temperature is controlled between 1300 and 1450°C in an upstream area and between 1400 and 1550°C in a downstream area.
