Disclosed herein is the compound (S) 2-amino-1-(4-chloro-phenyl)-1-[4-(1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-phenyl]-ethanol, composition comprising said compound, wherein the composition is either substantially free of (R) 2-amino-1-(4-chloro-phenyl)-1-[4-(1H-pyrazol-4-yl)-phenyl]-ethanol or the composition contains a mixture of the (S) and (R) enantiomers in which the (S) enantiomer predominates. Said compounds are useful for inhibiting or modulating the activity of protein kinase B(PKB), protein kinase A (PKA), ROCK kinase or p70S6K kinase and so therefore are useful in treating a disease or condition such as abnormal cell growth or abnormal arrested cell death, carcinoma of the bladder, breast, colon kidney, epidermal, liver, lung, oesophagus, gall bladder, ovary, pancreas, stomach, cervix, endometrium, thyroid, prostate or skin, a hematopoietic tumour of lymphoid lineage, a hematopoietic tumour of myeloid lineage, thyroid follicular cancer, a tumour of mesenchymal origin, a tumour of the central or peripheral nervous system, melanoma, seminoma, teratocarcinoma, osteosarcoma, xeroderma pigmentosum, keratoctanthoma, thyroid follicular cancer, or Kaposi's sarcoma.
