Summary:Disclosed is a twin roll casting machine which has reduced forces required on casting moulds to urge them together. The machine comprises: a pair of water-cooled casting rolls laterally positioned to form a nip there between, the casting rolls biased towards each other; spindles (37) transmitting rotary movement from a drive mechanism to the casting rolls; biasing units (41) capable of supporting the spindles; bearings (39) capable of supporting the spindles; and guides (43) capable of guiding the bearings in a generally horizontal direction. The biasing units are capable of supporting the spindles such that the mass of the spindles is not carried by the casting rolls, as well as supporting the bearings. In a second embodiment the biasing unit supports cooling water supply hoses.
