Summary:A device for promoting wound healing in mammals is described. This device comprises a negative pressure source, a porous pad for placement within a wound of a mammal, a drape of sealing enclosure of said pad and for maintaining a reduced pressure within said wound, fluid communication means for communicating between said negative pressure source and said pad, and a heating element for heating said pad. The device is also described to contain a cooling element for actively cooling the pad subsequent to heating it. Another device is described with the same features which has the effect of cooling the said porous pad.
