Summary:An oral composition for treating gingivitis and periodontitis comprising an oral vehicle and an effective amount of the water insoluble antigingivitis agent, imidazoyl-1-(p- chlorophenoxy)-3,3-dimethyl 2- butanone (also known as Climbazole) solubilized in a nonionic compound containing a mixture of hydrophobic and hydrophilic groups of sufficient length to effect solubilization in an aqueous vehicle, in the weight ratio of 1:1 to 25:1 and preferably 3:1 to 25:1 solubilizer:imidazoyl compound, said agent being selectively effective against the gram negative anaerobic micro-organisms associated with periodontitis.
