Summary:1432888 Jointing by forging ZEITGEIST AG 12 July 1974 [6 Aug 1973 25 March 1974] 31023/74 Heading B3H [Also in Division F2] A pair of reinforcing rods 2, 3 are joined together by deforming a steel sleeve 4 using a segmented die 5 which is drawn along the sleeve. The die 5 has segments which are releasably clamped together and moved axially of the sleeve by mechanical or fluid mechanism such as hydraulic jacks 7. The jacks are mounted on plates 8 which provide an abutment 9 for the sleeve to prevent its axial movement. The die segments define a bore with raised ribs which produce grooves 19 on the sleeve. The interior of the sleeve may be coated with alumina grit. If the rods 2, 3 are smooth a hard steel spring may be used between the sleeve 4 and the rods 2, 3.
