Summary:A method of controlling pressure in a wellbore 70 comprising positioning an active pressure differential (APD) device 102 in the wellbore; circulating fluid with a weight greater than a pore pressure; creating a pressure differential in the circulating fluid in the wellbore using the APD device to maintain a wellbore pressure below a fracture pressure during drilling and to maintain the pressure differential after the drilling has stopped. This may be carried out without substantially changing the density of the fluid. The APD device may be controlled by a controller having a processor to alter the pressure differential.
