Summary:A catalytic system (A) for (co)polymerization of lactide and glycolide comprises a trifluoromethanesulfonate catalyst (I) and a group 16 element compound additive (II). A catalytic system (A) for (co)polymerization of lactide and glycolide comprises a trifluoromethanesulfonate catalyst of formula R1O-SO2-CF3 (I) and an additive of formula R2-E-R3 (II). R1 = H, D (deuterium) or -E14(R14)(R'14)(R''14); E14 = group 14 element; R14, R'14, R''14 = H or D; or alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl (all optionally substituted by halo, alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl); E = group 16 element; R2 = H or D; R3 = H, D (deuterium) or -E'14(T14)(T'14)(T''14); E'14 = group 14 element; T14, T'14, T''14 = H or D; or alkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl (all optionally substituted by halo, OH, alkyl, alkoxy, cycloalkyl, cycloalkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, COOH, alkoxycarbonyl, cycloalkoxycarbonyl or aryloxycarbonyl). An Independent claim is included for a method for (co)polymerization of lactide and glycolide, involving contacting the monomer(s) with (A) and optionally a solvent.
