Summary:Acid addn. salts of 2-((2-amino ethyl thiomethyl) 5-dimethyl-amino- methyl furane of formula (I) are made by (a) reaction of (5-dimethylamino-methyl 2-furyl methyl) hydrogen sulphate of formula (III) with 2-amino ethyl mercaptan or its acid addn. salt or (b) treating 5-dimethylamino-methyl 2-furfuryl alcohol of formula (IV) with SO3 or suitable agent for introducing SO3, in presence of a solvent and reacting the prod. of formula (III) with cistamine or its acid addn. salt. The cpds. are intermediates for prepn. of 1-2-(5-dimethyl-amino-methyl 2-(furfuryl-thio) ethyl)amino 1-methylamino 2-nitro ethylene, for treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers.
