Summary:In order to facilitate the removal of ash and slag from a furnace, consisting of a cylindrical combustion room (10), which is extinguished at the base by a primary air flow grid (11), on which solid fuel material is supplied from below, one arranges that the grid meeting the injected primary air supply can be divided between a central section (14) and a surrounding concentric section (15).A conical mound of fuel material (13) is normally maintained on the grid, which reaches right out to the furnace wall. The grid plates (15 a) in the outer grid section (15) are movable and, during ash disposal, the air vent to the central grid section (14) is closed and air supply increased to the outer section (15). When the resting fuel stuff is burned up, the grid plates (15 a) are moved so that ash and slag fall down in to a water-filled ash box (28). The remnants from this are fed out by means of a screw (33).Once the ash removal is completed, the plates (15 a) are moved back and air supply is recommenced for normal operation.
