Summary: | 1377468 Hooks CENTRE NATIONAL POUR L'EXPLOITATION DES OCEANS and LE NICKEL 17 July 1973 [19 July 1972] 34079/73 Heading E2A A device for dropping ballast to allow under-water exploration apparatus to float to the surface for recovery after it has touched the bottom, comprises a pair of overlapping arms 1 pivoted at 3 to allow one (shown ghosted) to tilt to a releasing position (ghosted) when a latch 7 is released by the dropping of a weighted arm 4, 6 which is pivoted at 5, when the device rests on the bottom thus taking the load off float-cable 18. A plug of soluble material, such as barley sugar, is inserted into aligned holes 16 of the arms to prevent release for a certain time. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the arms have projections 9, 11 and 10, 12 defining closable eyes 13, 14 which may release cables in lateral directions F.
