Summary:1,259,387. Granular material comprising glucofuranosides. CIBA-GEIGY A.G. 31 July, 1969 [5 Aug., 1968], No. 38539/69. Heading A5B. A solid, free-flowing granular material comprising an oily or liquid pharmacologically active glucofuranoside of the formula: wherein R 1 is H, cycloalkyl, benzyl, alkyl, alkenyl or hydroxyalkyl; R 2 is H or alkanoyl; R 3 is allyl, alkyl, benzyl, methylbenzyl or halogenobenzyl and R 5 and R 6 each represent benzyl, methyl benzyl or halogenobenzyl and one of R 3 , R 5 and R 6 may be H, adsorbed on magnesium trisilicate and, if desired, on a further adsorbing agent, and a film-forming agent is prepared by mixing the glucofuranoside with the film-forming agent and an alkanol, working up the mixture so obtained with magnesium trisilicate adsorbent to form a plastic mass which is granulated whilst it is drying. The film-forming agent may be shellac, a polyacrylic or methacrylic ester, an ethylene oxide polymer, a polyvinyl alcohol or an ester thereof e.g. polyvinyl acetate, polyvinylpyrrolidone or copolymers thereof, or a cellulosic derivative which is soluble in alcohol or water e.g. cellulose acetate phthalate, hydroxypropyl-methyl-, ethyl-, ethyl-hydroxyethyl-, hydroxypropyl-, or carboxymethyl cellulose. The further adsorbent may be colloidal silica or cellulose. The glucofuranoside may be ethyl- 3, 5, 6-tri-O-benzyl-O-glucofuranoside or ethyl- 3-O-propyl-5, 6-di-O-para-chlorobenzyl-D-glucofuranoside. Tablets and dragees may be formed from the granular material.
