A smoking article (2, 32) comprises: a blind combustible heat source (4) with opposed front (6) and rear (8) faces wherein the blind combustible heat source has a transverse cross sectional area of at least about 60 percent of the transverse cross-sectional area of the smoking article; an aerosol-forming substrate (10) downstream of the rear face of the blind combustible heat source, wherein the rear face of the blind combustible heat source and the aerosol-forming substrate are exposed to one another; a mouthpiece (12) downstream of the aerosol-forming substrate; and one or more air inlets located downstream of the rear face (8) of the blind combustible heat source and upstream of the mouthpiece. The one or more air inlets (16, 18) are located between the rear face of the blind combustible heat source and a downstream end of the aerosol-forming substrate and comprise one or more first air inlets (16) around the periphery of the aerosol-forming substrate. In use, air drawn through the aerosol-forming substrate enters the smoking article through the one or more air inlets.
