Summary:A solar cell (100, l00A) comprising a substrate (200), a semiconductor region disposed in or above the substrate and a conductive contact (128, 228) disposed on the semiconductor regions, wherein the conductive contact includes a plurality of mechanically deformed Al particles (130) and a copper layer (134) directly on the deformed Al particles (130); wherein the plurality of mechanically deformed Al particles (130) are configured such that the oxide shells around the Al particles (130) break during mechanical deformation and increases the contact between the AI particles (130) by reducing the pores between the Al particles (130) to form a copper diffusion barrier layer.
