La presente invencion se refiere a la preparacion de trimetilciclododecatrieno en un proceso continuo o por lotes mediante trimerizacion de isopreno en la presencia de un sistema catalizador y de un solvente. Es posible aislar el trimetilciclododecatrieno crudo resultante mediante destilacion, el dimetilciclooctadieno formado como subproducto igualmente puede aislarse del producto crudo.
